World Economic Forum 2024

After the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, our President Nilüfer Bulut made a statement, our President mentioned the following in his statement: "As you know, the 2024 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum was held with the theme of "Rebuilding Trust" and through an important perspective, the issue of "rebuilding trust in the environment of rapid transformation with artificial intelligence" was discussed in detail. As TİKAD, as we do every year, we closely followed the Davos Summit last week and completed our research and analyses on the outputs of the Summit. I must state that the fact that geopolitical developments, climate change and artificial intelligence were the main agenda items at the Summit allowed us to get important clues about what kind of a world we need to prepare for. In a sense, the near and medium-term projections strongly underlined the fundamental and urgent problems of humanity, emphasised that world leaders should take measures as soon as possible, because environmental impacts and global conflicts are the determining factors in the future of the world, and presented a road map to the leaders in a sense. Our expectation from the world leaders is that they take these results into consideration and co-operate to leave a livable world for our children. Indeed, we know that assessments that supply chains may be disrupted if the tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine continue and that this may jeopardise energy and food security in the world were very prominent at the Summit. In light of all these, it is inevitable that the expectations for the global economy in 2024 will continue to be stagnant and geopolitical developments will put pressure on economic activities. The contribution of eliminating gender inequality to national economies is emphasised on every platform. However, it is pleasing that the relationship between women's health and the economy was strikingly demonstrated at the Davos Summit. We find the determination that supporting women's health can bring 1 trillion dollars to the world economy very important. It has long been stated that the solution to this inequality, which is defined as the "health gap" due to women's lack of access to health, lies in supporting scientific research and technologies that focus on women's health. We attach importance to the fact that a special topic was opened in Davos. Because unfortunately, the investments made in this field, which we call Femtech, occupy only 3% share. If women, who are a very important part of the economy, live longer and healthier, a gain of 1 trillion dollars will be achieved by 2040 alone. According to the relevant reports, every 1 dollar investment in women's health brings 3 dollars of economic growth. Therefore, scientific research, the right healthcare service, data analysis and investment are determined as important starting points in eliminating gender inequality. It is important and promising that this perspective was put forward at the Davos Summit."
